Zinc Oxide Nanorod Mediated Visible Light Photoinactivation of Model Microbes in Water
May 23, 2011
The inactivation of model microbes in aqueous matrix by visible light photocatalysis as mediated by ZnO nanorods was investigated. The inactivation efficiencies for both organisms under light conditions were about twice higher than under dark conditions.

Chinese Researchers Develop Waterproof Cotton
Apr 12, 2011
A group of materials researchers at China’s Northeast Normal University have developed a new treatment process for off-the-shelf cotton cloth. The treatment, which is currently a three-step process involving zinc oxide, silica, and other materials...

The Great White Hope for White LEDs: Zinc Oxide
Mar 17, 2011
Most LEDs use gallium nitride as the semiconductor. Gallium nitride emits blue light, which is turned white by coating the LEDs with yellow phosphor. Ecospark is developing zinc oxide nanowire LEDs, which will generate white light directly.

‘Nanosprings’ may work as actuators and transducers in microsystems: A new zinc oxide nanostructure
Mar 17, 2011
New zinc oxide nanostructure that spontaneously forms helical shapes with useful piezoelectric properties could be the basis for a new class of small-scale transducers and actuators useful in sensing and microsystem applications.
